That is what exaclty what the message said. What i have is a belkin 5 network switch. What i did was that i connected one 10/100 ethernet cable to my computer and then into one of the ports. Then i took another cable and hooked it to the port and then to my other computer.
"the network did not assign my network a address to the computer"
is not in proper English and does not look like an legitimate error message, unless the programmers are not fluent in the English language. Please post the full and exact text of the error message!

Also please explain how your network is set (i.e. what components are involved, the type of cables, and what each cable connects to).
