Cannot Access Wireless Internet
Hey,
I just bought an Alienware Area 51 ALX Desktop. I am trying to access my homes private wireless network but it seems the computer doesnt have that capability (wifi or bluetooth)?
Maybe I need to install something?
or access a program that i do not know about?
If this helps, here is my BIOS Information:
BIOS_Manufacturer: Alienware
BIOS_Name: Network: MBA v11.0.14 Slot 0500
BIOS_Version1: A09
BIOS_Version2:ALWARE - 20100730
Under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections it lists
- BlueTooth Network Connection (Not connected)
- Broadband Connection (Broadband Connection) ... But doesn't appear to be wireless, looks for WAN miniport pppoe, then errors out.
- Local Area Connection (network cable unplugged) - Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet
- Local Area Connection 2 (network cable unplugged) - Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet #2
Any help would be greatful
Thanks,
Nick

It is rare for desktops to come with WiFi and Alienware's are particularly large and so even less prone to movement/mobility than say some of the home optimised Dells. I suspect you'd need to buy a USB wifi dongle if such things exist. Other's with more networking expertise than me might recommend you give up and use a wired connection Local Area Connection or Local Area Connection 2. I have alsways connected my home desktops to the gateway via rj45 cable.
