The network setup wizard is one of the dumbest "wizards" around.  Try setting the network up manually using the tutorial at the following site:

www.homenethelp.com

This will only help to set up the PC side of the network.  The iMac side of the network you will have to figure out yourself.  Of course the "wizard would help with the iMac either.

I followed your advice and started to set up the network manually. This is the link where I got stuck.

http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-xp-ics.asp

  1. In the Local Area Connetion Properties I unchecked everything but the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and disabled the windows firewall.
  2. Next step was to make sure everything is checked in the Network Connention Properties. But here I had only one tab without these choices. It was almost blank. So I clicked OK and when I got back to the Network Connection window the Network Connection icon disappeared and only the Internet Connection icon was there.

This is where I am left off and don't know what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like you are following the instructions for Internet Connection Sharing.  This is not what you want.  Even though you are sharing an internet conenction, the router is performing the function of sharing the connection.  You do not want windows to load internet connection sharing software, as this requires two network cards and will not work with the router.  Therefore, go back to the following page:

http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-update.asp

and follow the instructions under where it says "If your computer has ONE network card and does NOT have a broadband modem directly connected to it:

Sorry I couldn't reply early, I had a very busy week.

I followed the instructions of the link and I could change the settings to set up the network. However, when I clicked on 'View Workgroup Computers' I got an error message: "XYZ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." What is wrong and how can I correct this error?

However, I could change file settings for sharing and I can see the files that I want to share in the shared docs folder. What is the next step?

I appreciate your help very much. Thanks.

Make sure the Windows XP firewall is not enabled.  If you have any other firewall software running, you will need to configure it to allow local network access.
