Cannot connect to internet after XP reinstall.

I recently reinstalled XP SP2 and everything seems to work fine except I cannot connect to the internet.  Device Manager says no drivers installed.  So I came here, put in my service tag, and got 4 recommendations.  I DL'd them all to a CD, then installed on my desktop (well, when I opened them, they installed themselves).  Device manager does not recognize the driver I installed.  I only had one driver to DL - the other recommendations were a diagnostics utility, a modem utility, & the last was the Netwaiting thing.  The driver recommended was Conexant D850 56K V.9X PCI DF Modem ULD, v.Drv32_7.70.0.0, A03. Now that's recognized as a modem, but it does not allow me to connect.  I thought that was only recommended because Conexant makes chipset drivers compatible with my modem.  I thought that was what I was downloading,

I have a UBEE 3.0 modem.    All the lights indicate connection to the computer, the ethernet light is active, but I cannot ping anything.

Any ideas?

To help us help you, we need to know the model of the computer you are using, and what you are using to connect your computer to the Internet.

Most Dell computers have an Ethernet port that is used for this purpose.  It is also possible to use a USB interface between the computer and the modem provided by your Internet Service Provider.  An older possibility is to use a dial-up modem to connect over the regular phone line.  Which of these do you use?

Sorry, I forgot the model! :(  Inspiron 530.  I use the ethernet port, but the drivers did not install at all on reinstall.  One of my coworkers is bringing in an ethernet -to-USB adapter tomorrow.  I'll let you know if this solves the problem tomorrow.

In order to use the on-board Ethernet port, you must install the Intel 825xx Platform LAN Device Driver for Windows XP.  That driver is found here:  R159293.EXE.  However, it may not install properly unless you have first installed the prerequisite chipset driver, found here:  R158363.EXE.

aha!  Thank you, Jack Shack!  I'll try this, too.  Interestingly, neither of those were among any of the drivers suggested to me after putting in my service tag.
