Cannot connect to Internet Browser
I'm able to connect to the Internet but can't connect to the Internet Browser. My shortcuts don't work and I tried going thru Norton's Live Update page. It appeared as though that was working, but then I got an error message that the updates couldn't be completed (I'm assuming because I wasn't able to connect to the Browser itself). What to do,what to do?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you can't connect to the browser. If your browser doesn't work, how do you know you are connected to the internet? What kind of internet connection do you have (cable/dsl/dialup)? If cable or dsl are you connecting directly to a cable modem, a dsl modem, a cable modem through a router, or a dsl modem through a router? If through a router, is it wired or wireless?

Have you checked your computer for viruses and spyware and removed all that was found?

I know (or at least think I know) that I'm connected to the Internet because I get a message 'connected to the internet' and also have the computers on the taskbar as well as the option to disconnect by clicking on the computers. I have dial-up.
When I click on the Internet icon on the desktop it doesn't do anything. The hourglass comes up as though it's running, but then it just disappears and the browser doesn't open up.
I checked the recylce bin to see if I indavertently deleted something, but there's nothing in there from recent use.

Yes, I ran the Norton Virus scan and it came up empty. I also have TrendMicro and Adware but can't access their sites to get the latest patterns, etc.
I've decided to just reinstall windows, first by checking for repairs and if nothing is found, then complete reinstall. I haven't started the complete reinstall yet and if you have further suggestions before I do, I'd gladly appreciate it.
