cannot connect to printer

First I am a beginner. I need help. My laptop is a inspiron 6000. I have a small network in my home. all of a sudden I cannot connect to my printer. The only thing I did different was try to send a fax through my computer and now I cannot print. I am guessing that had something to do with it.    I connect to the IP address of the other computer, the window comes up and the Printer is there. When I click on the printer to connect it says that the printer lost connection to the server. I can still print from the PC and access the internet with both. Help!!!

Access your "Printers and Faxes" icon in Control Panel. In the open window is there a check mark over your printer or fax machine? To print, it should be over your printer...

Yes, there is a check and when I try to connect or set as default printer it states "operation could not be completed, either printer name was ty
ped incorrectly or the printer lost its connection to the server" Thanks for taking the time to help!!!

i was having the same problem. make sure u r connected to your router and not someone else. 11 sounds like 802.11b. i was connected to my neighbor for almost a yr and i didnt even know it. i thought i was connected to myself router. i had to call linksys and the changed my ssid to my name and to have it broadcasted. so now at the bottom near the clock would show my name as im connected to. make sure u r above 36 and you will see your printer. good luck and let us know how it goes

usually get this when your connected to the internet at less then 36mbps on the laptop. when your above 36mbps it should see the printer. i get that message also when at a lower connection. try again when your connection is high. or hardwire your laptop. then redo it

hardwire is using the ethernet wire. also it may say excellent but u have to see the digits of how fast u r. signal may be excellent but you could be connected say 24mbps. you have to be over the 36 mark to see your printer.

start then run

\\ ipaddress then click enter

your desktop folders should popup along with print icon to install printer drivers onto your laptop
