Which version of Windows are you running?  Is the TCP/IP protocol installed? Are the TCP/IP properties set to obtain an IP address automatically?  Has your system ever been able to connect to the internet?  Are you getting an IP address that is valid for your connection (usually with a router, the IP address should be in the range 192.168.xxx.xxx)?  Please provide more information and perhaps someone can help.

Steve,

Thanks for the reply ! XP pro and i made a mistake the machine is a latitude 6100. Yes TCP/IP is running and it is set to obtain ip automatically. YES it was able to connect about a week ago and NO nothing new was installed. Dell was here in my office to replace the MB and wireless nic but nothing on software was changed. the machine is not putting out a 192 address that is my problem it is putting out a 169.xx.XX.XX which tell me it is not picking up the TC/IP properly. The nic and the wireless works because I can connect to my novell server but this requires IPX/SPX not TC/IP. I have checked for viruses thinking that a virus may have shut down the TC/IP or blocked my access.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Are the link lights on the network card and the router?  You could try repairing the tcp stack using the information in the following document:

Thanks Steve,

I tried this document and it did not help. AS I mentioned before I have tried almost everything and I am lost.

Thanks for trying.
