May I know the type of internet connection are you using (Wired or wireless)?
Since how long you been facing this issue?
May I know the anti virus installed on your computer?
If you are using a wireless connection, please ensure the wireless card is enabled. You may also check 'Device Manager' if there is any yellow exclamation mark or red cross. You may access 'Device Manager' by following steps below:
Click on “Start” and right click on “Computer”.
Click on “Manage”.
Click on “Device Manager”.
You may try using an alternate browser (firefox, chrome, etc) and see if the issue persists. Another step you may try is to boot the computer in Safe Mode with Networking' and try using your computer to see if it exhibits the same behavior:
Restart the computer.
Tap the F8 key on the keyboard during the boot process until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen.
Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the menu using the arrow keys on the keyboard and then press the key.
Select the user account at the log in screen and check if the system exhibits the same behavior.
Note: Steps applicable for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
In case the issue still persists, you may follow the steps below:
Click on Start -> Run -> type in "cmd" without the quotes in the box and press Enter.
In the command prompt, type ‘Ipconfig /all’ and hit Enter.
Maximize the size of the command prompt and reply with the contents of command prompt window.
Hi Chinmay, thank you for your reply. I have had this problem since purchasing this laptop in January. It is running Windows 8 and I am using it wireless. The anti virus is McAfee as supplied by Dell. I checked device manager as you suggested and there are yellow exclamation marks listed every day I have used it. Regards, Brian
Hi Chinmay,I think I might have been wrong in saying there were yellow exclamation marks in device manager...I am not very computer literate but I think the place I saw these yellow triangles was when I was troubleshooting through the Dell support page, I can't remember how I got there now but it was a window displaying the dates I had logged on that had these yellow exclamations, I don't seem to be able to find it again. This problem still persists together with frequent freezing with a message saying 'website is not responding' do you think there might be a fault with computer that could be sorted by claiming under warranty? Regards, Brian
May I know if you are get this error while accessing a specific website?
Did you try using an alternate web browser? If yes, do you face the same issue with that?
Are you able to detect wireless networks (When you click on wireless icon in notification area)?
You may check the video below to access 'Device Manager' in Windows 8:
If you see any yellow exclamation marks or red cross, you may let me know that. Also paste the screenshot of same (if possible).
If there is any yellow exclamation mark on any device, you may provide me the hardware id of that device for which drivers needs to be installed. Open Device manager --> Right click on the device with yellow exclamation or red cross -- > Properties -- > Then select 'Details' tab. Select Hardware ID by expanding the Device description Drop down menu. Below is an image (as example) which shows how you will find the hardware ID:
If there are no yellow exclamation mark or red cross in 'Device Manager', you may try to disable the firewall of anti-virus that is installed in the computer and check the result. This laptop is generally shipped with mcafee anti-virus. If Mcafee is installed on your laptop, please follow the steps listed below to disable the mcafee firewall temporarily:
- Locate the 'McAfee' icon on the taskbar. This is located in the lower right-hand side of your screen next to the clock - Right click 'Mcafee' icon and go to 'Settings' - Click 'Firewall' (Following screen appears)
- Click 'Settings' - Turn off the 'Mcafee firewall' (Select 15 minutes) - Click 'Done' - Re-check the 'internet access' - If 'Internet works, repeat the same steps to launch Mcafee firewall' interface - Click 'Turn On' (following screen appears)
- Click 'Restore Defaults' and re-check the Internet access
If 'Internet' does not work on disabling Mcafee firewall, you may try removing the 'wireless profile'. This issue also occurs when the profile goes corrupt. Please follow the steps listed below:
- Open the Network and Sharing Center. There, on the left side column, click on "Manage wireless networks" (Following screen appears)
- In the 'Manage Wireless Networks' window, you can see the profiles of all the wireless networks which were connected in the past. - Select the network with which you are facing trouble, and click 'Remove'
- Confirm that you want to remove the network profile. The profile of the wireless network is now deleted. Windows will detect that network as if it was a new discovery and you will be able to enter all the details again and connect to it.
Hi again, thank you for your patience, In device manager there is 1 item with yellow exclamation, it is as follows; USB-IF xHCI USB host controller . Hardware ID is root\USB palbus I don't get error in any specific website it happens in all websites I visit. have tried using Firefox and still get problem. I am able to detect wireless networks. Regards, Brian

Hi Brian,
It appears to be an issue with drivers corruption.
Could you please provide me the name of devices with the yellow exclamation mark on it? If possible please paste the screenshot of same.
