Which model computer?  Which version of Windows?  Which make and model wireless adapter?

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Before trying to help you fix the problem, I need more information concerning devices in your ipconfig output.  First of all no etherent adapter shows up there.  I know the 3000 has a built in ethernet adapter, but it doesn't show up here.  did you disable it?  Second, what is the BT Voyager USB Remote Device?  Are you connecting to the modem/router by a USB connection in addition to your wireless USB adapter?  Third, do you have any idea why there is a MAC Bridge MiniPort installed on your system?  Were you ever using Internet Connection Sharing on this computer?

The computer is connected to the router by a blue usb cable, I dont know why the mac bridge  miniport  installed i have never used the internet connection  sharing on my computer. thanks for taking the time to answer my queries. It seems to be some sort of browser problem

Set a Restore Point, then go to Network Connections, and remove the MAC Bridge MiniPort.  Unplug the USB connection from the computer to the router and see if you can now get a wireless connection.
