Cannot get internet connection.

Question

I have an inspiron 1150, each time i connect to the internet, it works fine and says that im connected but a few seconds later the whole system freezes and cannot move the mouse...Tried to contact dell and was taken through steps but was told it was a software problem...

Not sure exactly what you mean by operating system, but its Windows XP home edition..I have been connected to the NUIG wireless network since October and it was working fine, then over the christmas i tried to connect through my home fone line (eircom) and since then i've been having problems, and now it is still freezing when i try to connect to the wireless network in college.
