Cannot update Intell Pro Wireless Driver
I have tried to update the Intell Pro/Wireless driver on my Inspiron 6000. I downloaded the latest driver from Dell and also tried the generic driver from Intell. It gets into the install and a window pops up saying there was a problem installing the driver. If I let the install continue, I loose wireless connection and a yellow ! point is next to the network adapter in Device Manager. The only way to reconnect is to do a system restore. Do I need to uninsatll the adapter through Device Manager and Add/Remove programs and then do the update install? I am concerned based on the security issues that have been recently discovered with the old drivers. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. I am currently using the 9.0.2.31 driver. This same issue occurred when I tried to update to the 9.0.4.17 driver. I was not concerned at that time as there was no security issues identified at that time. If it matters, I use this notebook at work and am required to let windows manage the wireless card to connect to the wireless adapter at work.
I have posted this in the Inspiron General Hardware Forum but thought this might be the more appropriate forum.

1) remove any software (ProSet) that's hanging around from previous installations via the control panel. This may or may not remove the driver as well.
2) having already downloaded your driver package direct from intel (a new one was posted on 8/4), use a program like 7-zip or winrar to open the archive. Extract the XP (drivers) folder to your desktop.
3) Go into device manager, locate your wireless network intel card, right-click and select update driver. If prompted to let windows search the web, click no. Pick to install from a list or specific location -- and then specify the folder you extracted above (it maybe a subfolder of XP but I remember it being obvious). You should see the driver updating.
