Can't Access Laptop via Network

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the forum.  Found it by searching for a way to solve my problem.  I have three computers networked (wired) using Windows.  I have never been able to access my Inspiron 5100 via that network.  WHAT'S ODD IS THIS:  The laptop can access both desktops.  Neither can access the laptop.

All machines are using WinXP-Home SP2.

Unless the Inspiron has a built-in firewall, the only firewall present is Windows Firewall.  I even shut down the firewall to try and access it, but cannot.

I have all the hardware for a wireless network, but until I find the problem I'm not going to expend any more energy toward the network.

Maybe you folks know something about the Inspiron 5100 that I don't.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Jim

You asked "enabled on the network card".  File and print sharing was enabled when I ran the network wizard, if that is what you mean.

Some folders are designated as "shared".

No!  It doesn't even show up in My Nework Places on the two Desktops.  That's what has me lost! It would seem to simply be "blocked" totally........like it doesn't exist.

Thanks for your imput, Steve.  I appreciate it.

(There is nothing different about the Inspiron 5100, as I have one and have been using it on networks for the last 3 years.)

I never trust the network "wizard".  Open Network Connections, right click the network connection you are trying to use (Local Area Connection or Wireless) and select Properties.  Make sure File and Printer Sharing in check in the list of items.
