can't acquire IP address
Hi,All,
Latitude CPX with XP Pro. it worked fine until the university changes its wireless setting. I followed the instruction ( I am using a USB wireless adaptor), it works in and out. finally someone in the campus tech support did something to my labtop and it starts to work for a week. then die for ever-- cann't connedted. now, even I try to use wired internet, it shows the computer keeps trying to acquire IP address then failed finally, which says it hs limited or no connection. I removed the wireless adaptor program and rsinstalled XP Pro in the "repair" mode. but it still shows the same problem.
so anyone could feed me some idea: what is wrong?
by the way, the instruction for the wireless setting from the university is here:

regards,

Two setup tutorials. You will need to know the name of the network and any encryption passwords needed for access. If the IT people "broke it" tell them to fix it.

thanks for the reply. actually my problem is that now even with wired connection, my labtop still cann't acquire IP. I checked the TCP/IP properties, it shows normal (auto acquire IP address).
forget to say, my XP with SP2.
by the way,my wireless works fine when I first set them up. but at the beginning of this year, they change the set-up, my nightmare comes.

type this:
ipconfig /all >> ipconfig.txt
Watch the spacing in the syntax and seatc for the .txt file and then post it here.

Hi, JM,
the whole internet wiring is like below:
laptop--> USB network adaptor-->internet cable (RJ 45 cable, I don't rember clearly what the name, but it just normal data cable to hook up internet. every one use this stuff)--> cable modem.
the cable modem do has a USB port on it. but I am not using it. I connected to the LAN port.
see when I try to connect the RJ45 cable to the network card in my desktop, everything is fine.
regards,
tao
