I had that problem, I was told it was something wrong with my Version of Windows XP, so I format my hard drive, re-installed Windows XP Home Edition SP2. And I've been good since, but I aint telling you do format, try and fix the problem first.
Ken, I am having the exact same problem. Say I just started my computer - my first internet session is fine, but once I disconnect, if I connect again later without restarting the computer, it connects, but no pages will load, I can't email, nothing works. Once I restart, it again works for one session. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I really don't want to format my hard drive, because this is a BRAND NEW system which I just set up on Christmas.
rwaines, I tried downloading the dialer from isp (attglobal) which worked, but I could never get the windows dialer to work. I gave up on the windows and have been using my isp dialer since.
I could never get the windows dialer to work - it establishes the connection but nothing can communicate thru it - no browser, email, nothing... I found that I can ping an ip address, but can't ping any web sites. I even paid Dell $99 for the software service to correct the problem, but they haven't done a thing other than to have the h/w people say it's a s/w problem and the s/w people say it's a h/w problem!!!
happy new year!

Ok. I am on PeoplePC for my internet and using their Smart Dialer, and it does the same thing as the Windows dialer, connects, but nothing will happen. I'm trying to deal with Dell, and noone seems to have a clue. Never had this problem with previous computers, so I just don't understand...

I had to use the dialer software provided by my isp. Still can't browse using the windows dialer.
I paid $99 for Dell software support, and all they did was blame hardware, and hardware group blamed software - total waste of money!!
