can't connect to another computer (sometimes)

Hello I have a problem that I am confused about. My computer (optiplex GX520) is on a local network at work hooked up to about 9 other computers with the help of a server. My problem is I can't view the folders on another computer but only sometimes. When I open My Network Places and I try to click on a remote folder the window just freezes and does nothing and it won't let me do anything with that window, but then after a bit of time I can click again and the same thing happens all over. I don't know what is wrong. The thing is though if I restart my computer I am able to access all of those folders with no problems. It seems to occur when I haven't used my computer for a while, 10 minutes to all night. It seems like the restart resets everything but then goes awry after a bit. I don't understand what could be causing it. If anyone can help, I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you set the power management settings on the network card to never turn the device off?   Is your computer set to go into standby or hiberate mode after a period of inactivity?  If so, avoid using these features on a desktop computer as they are rarely reliable on desktops.   Steve

Nope that didn't seem to work. It just won't let me open up a remote folder till I restart, or sometime it might come up with a login window for that computer but that is kind of hit and miss and if it does work it works so incredibly slow. I don't know what the problem is. It used to work just fine but now its annoying having to restart all the time just to get the connections to work. Does anybody else have any ideas that would help me. Thanks a bunch.
