I get those exact messages and Im using the same modem. I would like to know what causes it and how to fix it also. As Im now back to using my old pc. I can install the modem and check email, use msn. But the minute I begin to use internet explorer it blue screens.
I get the same errors. I also have the SB4200. Tech support is NOT HELPING. I just got the computer 2 days ago and I'm ready to return it! Are you listening, Dell?
In regards to the last post, I don't have both ethernet and usb hooked up, just usb. I'm glad it worked for you though.
the post about is incorrect. Sorry dont mean to be rude. I had this problem for a whiel. You need to run ETHERNET ONLY. Do not use USB. That is the problem. There is something wrong with XP i think.
I had the same problem - getting BAD_POOL_CALLER or BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER.
This is a problem with Windows I think, which Microsoft are vaguely aware of. There is a hotfix for a similar problem on the Microsoft Knowledge Base (just search for BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER), but....because they don't really know whats going on yet, you have to phone up and have the fix sent to you. It relates to a problem with USB hard drives, but I think the fix should address our problem.
The way I've got round this is to dispense with the USB connection, and use Ethernet. I have a Motorola SB4100 cable modem which has both connections, and XP Pro SP1 - this seems to have solved the problem.
You need to connect up you modem using ethernet cable and then let your ISP know the new MAC address - they should run through all this with you.
I have the same problem, I can connect to the internet, but after about 10-15 seconds of use my computer blue screens with either the "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER" or "BAD_POOL_CALLER" error. It sounds like Microsoft have a fix for this, but my computer crashes every time I move around the Microsoft website (some websites crash my computer immediately, such as www.motorola.com, I don't know why, I guess they hit just the right amount of data transfer to upset my USB2 setup..) ..
Please, is there any chance that someone from Dell or from this forum can send me the fix directly? Or can someone give me an email contact for Microsoft support? I'm based in the Czech Republic - I don't speak Czech, so the local Microsoft hotlines aren't helpful :-( ..
well using ethernet might be all wel and good but i tryed and optus will only use the usb to connect to the internet any time i try ethernet it wont work i tryed the optus setup again and it cant detect the internet connection
We had same problem, same blue screen with same messages BAD_ POOL_CALLER and BUG_CODE_CALLER. Called comcast tech and they told us we probably had a bad ethernet wire and we should replace that first. With the help of a Radio Shack sales person we found out the wire Motorola packed in the modem box was a phone wire, similar plugs but not the right ones. Replaced wire with a true ethernet wire and everything works great now.
I had this same problem. I have a Motorola 4200 cable modem and was trying to connect with the USB cable. I contacted Motorola after trying everthing else, including erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP. They said they had seen problems using the USB connection on computers with Hyperthreading systems, which is what I have. Their engineers are currently working on a new driver to solve this problem. Until then, connect using the ethernet card. It has worked for me.
I have an Inspiron 8600 with a Dell Truemobile 1400 wireless card in it. I'm not using the ethernet port or the 1394 port, only the wireless card. It also has a Radeon 9000 card (other threads say it might be to blame). This 8600 was working find then suddenly would not restart without bluscreening with the "bad pool caller" message. Through much trial and error, using safe mode then rebooting, I finally learned that setting the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service to manual enabled booting without the bluescreen. I could then start the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service manually and it would work. I still, too frequently, get the same bluescreen while I'm working. I would sure like to get this solved.
I am working with MS 2nd level right now trying to resolve this issue with my Dell system. I still haven't completely resolved my issue but MS has sent me this info that has a least resolved 90% of my BSOD's with this issue. Try this, it may work for you.
(1) Click Start, and then click Search (->For Files or Folders).
(2) In the Search Companion dialog box, click "All files and folders".
(3) Type "vnetusba.sys" (without quotation marks) in the "All or part of the file name" box
(4) In the "Look in" box, choose "Local Hard drives".
(5) Click "More advanced options" to make sure that the "Search subfolders", "Search hidden files and folders", and "Search system folders" are selected.
(6) Click Search.
(7) After you find the file, right-click it and choose Rename.
(8) Type "vnetusba.old" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter.

Finally got it.... read the manual of the modem, the answer is there....
Connect just one, UBS or ethernet to the computer... not both...

Hi,
I'm also interested by the fix for "bugcode_usb_driver".
Is it the same fix for all languages (I use a French version of XP Pro) ?
Thanks.
