1) Starting at the beginning (with no intent but being thorough) Check to make sure the wireless card is in fact turned on (I think it's Function F2 on your computer).

When you first reconnected at home it was to your router right? Then you tried it directly to the DSL. The ip you got from ipconfig is a self assigned ip address and based on the message stating that "no Ethernet adapter local area connect Connection" means that even if the DSL modem were at fault, you should still at least get a valid IP from your router which you clearly are not. Did you do ipconfig/release_all and the ipconfig/renew? You also did not receive a valid DNS suffix which is the name assigned by your DSL provider.
I'd try all the suggestions but save the program downloading for right before you call Dell for service. (my preference for not downloading any extra software) Dells are great machines but even they have problems sometimes...Windows has a lot more problems but can usually be resolved less painfully than hardware replacement.
***I just thought of something else too. Some of these systems are or can be set to deactive the internal ethernet connection when running on battery. If this happens it will report what you saw with ipconfig /all. Could this be the problem?
