can't connect to my network

I have an Inspiron B130 with wireless capabilities and the Dell Utility Icon has disappeared from my taskbar and I cannot connect to my network.  I went into the Dell WLAN card utility and my network name is listed, but it has an X on it.  Let this tool manage your wireless network is checked, show utility icon is checked, and enable radio is checked.  Down in the taskbar, when I put the cursor on the computer icon, it says Wireless Network Connection is now connected, Connected to Linksys, signal strength no signal.  We have Dlink, not Linksys.  I have downloaded the new drivers for the card.  Do you have any suggestions?  I was installing McAfee Total Protection, when this happened.

It's likely that the McAfee firewall is misconfigured so as to block the connection.  Either disable it temporarily until you get things working or uninstall it.

Do you have the McAfee total protection program?  If so, do you know where to go to configure firewall?

I do not have the McAfee software so I cannot tell you how to configure the firewall.  Since you have it, you should be able to look in the users guide or Help files.

Hi,
First of all, open up the Dell wlan card utility and make sure that all the three check boxes ie

1. Let this tool manage the wrls conenction
2. Show utility icon
3. Enable radio

are checked..once thats done,on the same window,at the bottom, you would see your netork name(thats the profile)..selct it and click remove..if you have any other profile, remove that too..now the box at the bottom of the page would be empty..now click add on the same page...it would show u the list of avlbl networks..selct your network and hit next..if security enabled,it would ask you for the password..if not just hit next and connect..you should be connected to ur network..
