Can't connect wirelessly on N505
OK I have a friends laptop, been trying to get the wireless working again. I also put in a new mini card. I get NO BARS showing wireless/wireless networks. I have reinstalled the operating system also, before I put this new card in. The Bluetooth does come on using the F2 on off switch but like I said, I get now bars for wireless connections. I've been working on computers for years and this one is stumping me, I've never had this issue where I couldn't resolve an issue. What am I missing here? HELP PLEASE like ASAP! Thanks!

Hi Dave,
Do you mean an Inspiron 5050 laptop? Which OS did you reinstall? Was it XP? Vista? Which wireless mini-card did you install? Since you stated you've been working on systems for a while I'll go assume you connected the antenna leads to the correct leads. I believe that model had the antennas run up through the LCD screen. If so, do you know if the antenna wires running through the LCD have become crimped at all?
Here is the link to the N5050 service manual. It will show you how the LCD is replaced, which will help you to find the antenna wires. You may want to see if they have been crimped or cut by accident.
Does Device Manager show that wireless card driver installed?
The n5050 originally shipped with either the Dell WLAN 1701 or 1702 (since you stated it had bluetooth). If you can tell me which of those cards (if either) you put into that notebook I'll pull up the troubleshooting links for those specific cards and see what else I can find that may help you.
Let me know the answers to the above questions and if you're not able to figure out how to resolve this problem we'll see what else we can try.
