Can't get IP address connecting wirelessly

I've had some serious problems with my Inspirion 1501 laptop lately.  My current issue is connecting wirelessy to my wireless router.

It's not the router, because I'm connecting to it with another laptop to send this message.

I'm getting a signal, but I am not getting an IP address.

I've tried to use IPCONFIG /renew but it tells me the RPC server is unavailable.

I'm using Dell's wireless WLAN Card Utility.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the message is sayinig that the " RPC server is unavailable"?  If so, have you checked your system for spyware and malware recently?  Have you installed any new software recently?

I am positive about the message.

Both my wife and I use this laptop and it is our home computer.  We have installed different things lately.

An older version of Quicken for one.

I was having issues with PC-cillin running lately, so it could be unprotected.  I was able to reinstall it this weekend, but am unable to connect to the internet so I haven't updated it.  The virus libraries have to be at least 6 months old.

If you boot to Safe Mode with Networking Support, does the wireless card work and can you connect to the internet?
