Can't get online

Can someone please help me. The computer that I was given can't connect to the internet. The Device Manager has a yellow exclamation point next to Ethernet Controller.

Do I need a driver? Where do I get it?

Service Tag: JT9M111

Thanks

First off, we need to know what type of network card it is.  Yes you will need a driver for it to work properly. You should try to reinstall the driver to the card. If it is a network card that came wit your PC, the driver should have been supplyed to you on the Resource CD with the PC.

Thanks so much for responding.

The PC in question is a donation to our nonprofit organization. It didn't come with any software and I installed Windows 2000 on it.

How do I find the network interface card?

When I click on the ethernet controller under "Device Manager", it doesn't know who the manufacturer is!

gtman1234,

The "as-shipped" listing for the Service Tag you posted shows the network device as a "CARD (CIRCUIT), NETWORK, ETHERNET, 10/100, CNET TECHNOLOGY INC, REVISION". Note that the information about the machine can be accessed via the Product Support/Service and Warranties" menu at the top of the Forum page.

Here is a link to the Windows 2000 driver for the CNET Pro200WL Ethernet Adapter. If there are other problems, you might want to check over Dell Support's Win2K reinstall guides for the Dimension 8200.

Try installing with the driver above and see if that helps.
