Can you see the printer across the network?   Is the printer installed as a network printer on the computers trying to access it across the network?   Are any firewalls running on the computer to which the printer is attached configured to allow local network access?

sorry! wasn't too good on the information (1st timer!!).
Yes is the answer to all your quesions.
The 2 Dell Dimension computers are networked on a D-Link ADSL Router and I have enabled file and printer sharing on that as well as the Norton Firewall.
The printer icon has a "hand" under it on both computers.

Many thanks for trying to help

The printer should only be shared (i.e. have a hand under it) on the computer to which it is attached.  If that computer is running the Norton Firewall, then you will not be able to print to it over the network unless you have configured the Norton Firewall to allow local network traffic.
