Certain websites unaccessible wirelessly
Studio 1558 using Windows 7 64-bit with Netgear DGN1000 router
I can access almost every website with no problem however two sites in particular time out unless I connect an ethernet cable between the laptop and the router. Then there is no problem, the site comes up immediately. The sites are skytv.co.nz and asbbank.co.nz.
I have tried different browsers but that does not make any difference. I borrowed a Toshiba laptop and connected to my wireless network and that had no problem connecting to either site wirelessly so there must be something wrong in my Dell laptop. One difference I noticed between the Toshiba and Dell laptops was in Wireless Network Connection Status the Connection Speed for the Dell is 65.0 Mbps whereas the Toshiba was 150.0 Mbps. I'm not sure what this means and whether it is relevant.
I have reduced the wireless MTU to 1400 from 1500 but still no connection on those sites. It is a nuisance to have to use the ethernet cable to visit two websites when the wireless works fine on every other site.
What could cause this?

Hi Kaywess,
I suggest you to update the wireless card drivers and check if you are able to open the web sites. Please visit the following link and enter the system Service Tag in the “Yes” section and click “Submit”:
http://dell.to/YFr4GW
Click on the “Network” section on the download page and download the wireless drivers listed. You will need to check the security software blocked website settings, if the issue persists after installing the drivers.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thanks for your suggestion. I downloaded and installed the R228550 driver for the DW1520 Half Mini Card and then realised that the version 5.30.21.0 was older than the one I had previously installed from Broadcom 5.60.48.18. I still could not access the websites so used System Restore to reinstate my laptop to its previous state.
I then used the Dell website link again and looked closely at the 16 files listed as "Filtered driver results for your service tag" but most were for hardware that I do not have in my laptop. The few that did apply were already installed or, as in the case of the DW1520 Half Mini Card, an older version. Does the Dell software not compare what is the system before it lists "Upgrades"? Why does it list drivers for hardware that my Service Tag should indentify as not required?
Anyway, having been through this process, I am now finding that I can access the websites wirelessly. I don't know why this should be, as my system is supposed to be the same as it had been before. However I hope it is a permanent change.
Thanks again.

I thought it was too good to be true. Now things have reverted to they were before.
If I try to access one of the two websites referred to before wirelessly, it might work but most of the time it just waits trying to connect and then I get a message saying that it cannot connect. If I then join the laptop and router together with the ethernet cable and try the website it connects instantly.
Why should this be?
