gotcha. if you have quickset installed (the QS on the taskbar) either click or right-click (i forget which) to find an option to create new power profiles.
create a new one called home and define the behavior for plugged and unplugged. put the contrast and brightness on max. create another profile for other occassions. then you can click/right-click? the QS icon to switch which power profile you want depending on your present location.
If you lack quickset, click technical support above and click drivers/downloads -- enter your product information and look under application downloads.
