Channel Selection

in the 802.11b/g band, is there a "best" channel if no other wireless networks are around?  which is less likely to catch microwave interference and which offers the best range/most penetration?

Lower channels marginally better power/range.  Upper channels better isolation from microwave ovens and 2.4ghz phones.

that is wireless A my friend, its the most expensive one out there so the rarest one used. Its good for a private network though. All products carrying this though have all 3 bands (a, b and g) My linksys router cost me about 100 bucks from J&R

Although the second generation A stuff apparently solved the problem, I'm still not sure I trust the range of A products.  Not to mention, my phone is in the A band ;-)
