cisco VPN client issue

Have new Inspiron N5110. When I try Cisco VPN client 5.0.07.0290, the connection is made but then times out and issues error 412. Have observed that when VPN starts the network indication changes to "unidentified network", My other computers have no problem, even the HP that also runs WIn 7 (In XP mode). Same problem when using copper direct to cable modem.

Hi bobbedell,

Try this

1) Uninstall the VPN client

2) Restart system

3) Run the VPN client setup as administrator

4) Restart system

Also which OS are you using ?

Reinstalling has no effect. As I said, OS is W7 pro. Again, Connection to host is made and then my home network changes to "unidentified network - no internet access" and then times out with code 412. No problem on HP desktop also on W7 pro.

Mcafee has known issues blocking a network connection inspite of it being OFF.

Could you try this in safe mode with networking ?

Hi,

Please be sure you are using the most recent update as recommended for the version of Windows 7 you are running. While the Cisco VPN client version you are using works sufficiently on your HP Windows 7 Professional PC that doesn’t necessarily mean the same version will be compatible with your Dell Windows 7 Professional PC. Please be sure to check the type of architecture for your Dell Windows 7 Professional PC.

It’s likely you are running Windows 7 64-bit and if that is the case, you will want to ensure the Cisco VPN Client is recommended for 64-bit versions of Windows.

For your convenience, I have checked Cisco’s Forum threads as well and many posters who were also receiving error 412 and they too have confirmed it would be wise to check any and all firewalls. As another poster within this thread stated it would be best to test the VPN client from Safe Mode with Networking just as a precaution to ensure there aren’t any 3rd party firewalls that may be inadvertently getting in the way.

Also, a similar issue to the one you are describing was also seen before within Windows Vista and Cisco VPN Client 4.8.02.0010. The TechNet forums thread Cisco VPN Client describes the issue and the solution that worked for the original poster is highlighted in green, while this may not be the answer to your specific problem it would be a good place to start providing the firewall check does not solve the issue.

I gave it up. Downloaded virtual machine and installed 32 bit VPN under XL mode. Works fine. Still would like to run 64 bit VPN under Windows 7 build 7601 Sp1.
