Closing Pop ups while maintaining web site

When I go to a trusted site that I have enabled pop-ups to appear, after I am through with the pop-up and I close it,

the original web site disappears and I receive a message stating that the tab has closed and I need to click the refresh button at the top.  This happens every

time I go to this particular site.
