clueless about wireless
I have an Inspiration 8600. For a year I've been getting the message that my wireless network connection is not connected. After 2 frustrating days of connecting one computer and then the other to the Internet, I called Dell and asked what I needed. I purchased a Netgear Wireless home router, went through the Wizard Set Up but I'm still getting the wireless connection is not connected as well as "wireless network unavailable."
I've read some of the Dell faqs and MS faqs and I'm more confused than ever. Is there help for me or do I belong in the last century?

What kind of internet connection do you have (cable or dsl)? How is your network physically set up (i.e. what is connected to what)?

You need to shut off the cable modem, router, and all computers. Then run an ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN (sometimes called Internet) port on the router. You then need to run an ethernet cable from the PC to one of the LAN ports on the router. Next turn on the cable modem. Wait about 5 minutes, then turn on the router, then wait another few minutes and turn on the router. You should be able to connect to the internet through the PC and also be able to connect to the router from the PC to configure any wireless settings necessary to get the laptop connected through wireless. Did you read the setup instructions that came with the router. It sounds like you never had is set up correctly.
