computer can't communicate with new modem
I have been connecting to the internet through a wireless network but I have moved and since got a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem hooked up directly to the computer and I can't access the internet. I called the cable company and they said they can't help me because it is a computer problem. The Local Area Connection under Network Drives is under the "Network Bridge" heading instead of the" LAN High Speed Internet" heading, therefore the modem is not communicating with the computer and I can't access the internet. How do I get the Local Area Connection under the proper heading? I have a Dell Dimension 8250 running Windows XP.

It's ridiculous that the cable company won't help.
I have internet through Comcast.
I would delete that Local Area Connection and create a new one.

Yes it is ridiculous. I always had Comcast now I have Cablevision since I moved. How would I create a new one? I've never had to do this before. I don't want to mess it up furthur.

I tried using the Network Wizard. It doesn't work.
Thanks

You need to delete your old connection and create a new one. You might also have to clone the MAC address. I had to do that when I got Comcast internet because Linksys which is the cable modem that I bought said that it is often necessary to do that with cable internet.

Thanks. I had my friend's husband who is a computer tech come over and he fixed it. It took him over an hour and he knows what he is doing. It wasn't simple to do but it works now so I'm happy.
