computer constantly freezes!

I work from home so need to surf various websites all day. If i look at a site for maybe 5 seconds or longer, the computer freezes. If i go to the red cross at the top right to log off, it won't let me, so i go to start and log off this way which works. When it does finally log me off, the little box where you sign in will have a sentence written in red at the top saying 'your account was signed off when your computer was put in to suspend mode' I have been on to lots of sites trying to find out how i stop this, but nothing helps. I am going to contact Dell as i still have a warrenty, but like AOL they will probably give me a million different things to try out and nothing will help. I did think the problem was with AOL but they beleive it is with the computer.
Writing this message will have probably taken me about an hour as when i go to submit the post nothing will happen so i will have to keep logging off!
By the way, i have little knowlege of computer as you may have guessed form some of the terms i have used, so please help me in plain English lol
Thanks in advance.

Since you have AOL, I would suspect it's an issue with AOL software.  Their software is known to be buggy.  You may have other problems but the first thing to do would be to uninstall AOL (and that is another problem as AOL will not completely uninstall), restart your PC and then reinstall AOL.  See if that helps.

There can be PC issues but you failed to include your PC model number and Operating System.  No one can give you specific assistance without that.  All we can do is offer general suggestions.

Hi, thanks for the help, i wil try to re-install AOL once Dell have got back to be.

Sorry i did not include my computer model, i realised this once i had asked the question. It is a Dimension 5000 and i am using Windows XP home edition version 2002. The system properties are as follows Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2.99 GHz, 512MB of RAM

Not sure if the above help any better.

After seeing what you have, I'd still lean towards the AOL software or the AOL network.
