Computer locking up

I have Windows XP home edition.    When I am in outlook express and click on a link that is in an e-mail message, the computer locks up and I have a terrible time clearing everything and usually have to turn the computer off.   I have an inspiron 6000.   HELP!

Do you have the same problem using a web browser when you click an embedded link such as here?

No, only when I am in outlook express reading an e-mail and the link is in that e-mail.

I have a similar problem on my 6000, I can be browsing the internet and it randomly freezes on me, the only option I have is to turn it off/on again. this can happen upto 5 times over a 3 hour period. It happens on wireless and also when connected via a rj45 cable to the modem. I have got a new router and still the same problem exists.

Any ideas ?

I have taken my laptop into work today and left it powered on and not doing an awful lot. Not connected to the network at all. It finally locked up on me after 7 hours. Only had Word open this time. So I think I can now safely rule out the internet side of things, although it does seem to accelerate the problem.

I tried your suggestion but it didn't work.   Any other suggestions?   A Dell sales person told me to reinstall windows.   What do you think?

I would try removing and adding back Outlook Express before I'd reinstall the entire OS.
