computer's not detecting router

Neither my desktop nor my laptop can detect the router even though I am using the router right now as a wireless connection for my laptop.

Troubleshooting steps taken: I have attempted to install the router using the CD provided and it tells me that it cannot detect internet activity even though I can easily open a web page with a direct internet connection.  I have tried to bypass connecting from the cable modem (motorola SB4200) to the router in the internet connection, and from the router (through the LAN 1 port) to the desktop and trying to set up the desktop as a wired connection, in this case the router cannot be detected and asks me to verify my connections, which I have, and they are correctly configured but still the router cannot be detected by the desktop or the laptop.

It is a Truemobile 2300 and when I try to use the web based configuration tool it cannot seem to find it on the desktop, but it can on the laptop.

landius,

It would be very helpful to know which make and model router you are talking about here.  If it is the Dell TrueMobile 2300, then this is known bug in the software - the software looks for the router at the wrong IP address.  You don't need the software.  Everything that can be done on this router through software, can also be done through the web-based configuration utility built into the router itself.

The modem needs to be connected to the WAN port, not one of the LAN ports.
