Configuring and using an ethernet device
In order to use the ethernet device, Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Contoller, do I only need to connect to a network with a ethernet cable and configure my Inspiron 5100 for the network connection? Are only a network connection and ethernet cable required?

Leaping Keep,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
In reference to your questions, yes. Generally if a computer system has a network card and the correct drivers for this card, then it should work on most network setups configured to use DHCP. This becomes more complex when you configure the card for static IP addresses. Each method has its own pluses and minuses for this type of configuration.
Edit: Corrected spelling error.
