After I remove the modem cable from computer and attach to router and LAN from port to computer, the router lights up showing all systems go, but no connection to my computer or internet. True Mobile 2300. As far as configuuring from the router page I don't understand how. I am a newbie at routers/modems.
First of all, what model router did you buy? Secondly, most of the regulars will tell you to diych the CD and install from a web interface, such as http://192.168.1.1 , which is the Linksys address.
Are you using a crossover CAT5 cable to attach from the computer to the router or a regular CAT5 cable? The router should have come with a very detail set of instructions.
Hookup the router(Modem>Router>PC). The cable from the modem will go into the WAN port and the PC will hookup to one of the LAN ports. Open Internet Explorer. Go to: http://192.168.2.1 and this shuld bring up the router configuration interface.

Bascially that's about it to run a wired connection. Make sure that the router is running as a gateway and the DHCP function is enabled. This isn't rocket science, maybe higher math, but not impossible.
Details...hmmm..let's see. Open CD driver insert CD, follow useless prompts. Thats it. Oh it also came with a "booklet" that showed the pictures of the tutorial contained on the cd. The users manual was also greek to me. Am hooking it up with the cable they sent for it. Both cables work my modem, so they are good. It's just the configuration I don't get. It's Friday, will continue to try till Sunday. After that back to DELL and willl try another brand.
Saga continues. Got my internet working through my router, but when router is plugged in I lose my Westell configuring page. Can surf the net but am unable to figure out my wireless now. Alot of money wasted by me. I want to enable my kids to surf from their rooms instead of on mine. Thing is working fine for me, but my networking skills are nill. Too crazy for me to figure. Dell support is nill also.
No Norton. Westell is that 192.168 place. And on this end of the computer is one frustrated, stupid feeling Novice at networking because for the life of me I can't figure this mess out. I read the knowledge boards and they lose me. It took me almost four days just to get my router to work, now I can't get the wireless thing going on. I apologize for the whine, and yes I would like some cheese with that. :) I know I must be making some stupid oversite, but as I said I havn't a clue. There are not enough hours in the day for all this and I fear I will end up drilling holes to run a crossover cable after I get the money from selling this stuff from ebay, because DELL won't help me with tech support because my "service tag" isn't registered in my name, and they said for all they know I could have stolen the computer. Isn't that a hoot. Good thing I didn't buy it at a garage sale, I'd be in jail. (pass the crackers and whine please.) Another day folks. I havn't much to say about dell these days. User friendly is not in my vocabulary. I'll keep trucking along and try to avoid taking a hammer to this machine that I love so dearly.

What's Westell? The modem? That will not come into play unless it is a combo modem/router unit.
Do you have any sort of firewall running such as Norton?
