Conflict between home and work network

Hi

I have a problem with network connection on my inspiron 5150 - it is a bit complicated to explain, but I will try the best I can ...

Basically, I use my laptop at work on their network via Novell Client for windows (enter my login name and password and it logs me in) and I can access internet etc.  this is done through the ethernet socket at the back left of the laptop through a cable.

when not in work I have been able to log onto wireless networks in libraries etc with no problems at all.

However, I have recently had broadband internet installed in my house which also involves connecting to the laptop though the ethernet socket through a cable.  It works fine - (I have to log into windows as "workstation only" on windows.)

the problem comes however when I return to work the next morning and attempt to log in on the network.  I get a message saying the tree or server cannot be found and it refuses to log me on.  If I log on using the "log onto workstation only" option, then I am able to log onto windows, but the system freezes within a matter of seconds with a message saying that a fatal error has occured and that is has just done a physical memory dump.

fortunately, I have software which has backed up my hard drive and so have been able to restore my system enabling it to work again.  I have got nowhere however in trying to figure out how I can use my NTL internet at home without completely screwing up my network at work the next day!

I have taken all the obvious steps - spoken to NTL ..... they want nothing to do with it as it is not their problem and must be related to the work network settings

so have also spoken to the IT guys here who are equally unhelpful saying it is nothing to do with their system and must be something to do with NTL!

I am writing here in the hope that someone else may have experienced a similar problem and know what to do about it.

thanks

Jonathan

Google search for a program called Network Switcher.  It will allow you to configure you machine to run on multiple domains.

Have found out the solution.

In case anyone else ever experiences a similar problem, this is what I do:

I have to log onto windows as a workstation only and goto "run".  I type "CMD", then at the prompt, IPCONFIG /RELEASE

I then restart the computer and I am able to log on.  I have to do this every time I use the internet now but it is better than nothing!
