Try the following.   Go to Start > Run and type cmd then hit the Enter key. In the command prompt Window that opens, type icpconfig /flushdns then hit the Enter key.   See if that fixes the problem.  If it doesn't, To help troubleshoot th problem further, again go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

You are not getting a valid IP address from your service provider.   Try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here

How are you attempting to connect to the internet (cable/dsl/dialup)?  If cable or dsl, are you connecting directly to the modem by ethernet or through a router?

I am using dialup...that's all we have here.  I have called my isp and they don't know what is going on either... We have pinged while I was on other phone line with them and shy of taking an axe to it, I/we can't figure this out!  I have read and followed every post here on how to correct this and nothing!!!  Guess I'll have to take it to shop...I have the resource disk and the disk for win.XP PRO  full version...have upgraded from win 2000..even installed full version but it took too much memory and had to restore back...other than obtaining websites (DNS ERROR or cannot find server) my connection works/ connects at 45 most of time...no email either!  No LAN ...I got this machine a few months ago ...everything else works perfectly.
