Connected To Wireless but No Internet

I have a Dell Latitude D600.  I have a wireless card in my computer.  My wireless works fine on any other wireless networks, including Linksys wiresless, Wireless connects at Hotels, and my University Wireless.  However, for some reason my computer is having trouble with my Linksys at home.  It is a regular Linksys wireless router.  My computer CONNECTS TO IT WITH AN EXCELLENT singal strength.  Yet, when I try to open internet explorer or do anything on the internet, The screen comes up saying that I cannot access the internet.  It seems to be a rare problem that no one seems to understand or have, because, according to my computer, I AM CONNECTED.  I have tried resetting the wireless, restarting my computer, unpluggin the wireless, and nothing works.  And I know the problem isn't my computer or the Linksys because both are working fine in other locations.  Please tell me waht the problem may be!

Thanks.

Do you have other computers that can connect through your router at home?

If you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support, does the wireless work at home?

As a troublshooting step, can you sucessfully connect to the internet through the router using a wired ethernet connection from the Latitude D600?

can you do ipconfig and ping on your system and paste the result?
have you tried changing the channels on your wireless router?
try to do ping www.google.com and check the result.
try to do ping 64.233.187.99  and check the result.

you may also a proxy enabled for your system.

results on your ping can really help a lot.

thanks!

I cannot check if other computers can get onto my wireless.  Is that what you're asking?  The only computer in the apartment is my own.  But I might be able to check on this later in the week.  What would this mean? Would it show if its only my computer or if its the linksys in general?

If you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support, does the wireless work at home?
Booting to Safe Mode with the Network doesn't help.  My computer still says im connected iwth excellent strength but the internet still doesn't work

As a troublshooting step, can you sucessfully connect to the internet through the router using a wired ethernet connection from the Latitude D600?

I use to be able to connect through the internet with a wired ethernet connection in my apartment which is why I am certain that the modem is okay.  But my computer is getting old and the ethernet thing in the back of my computer is extremely sensitive now and rarely works (which is why i got the wireless).  But if you are asking if the wire has worked through the linksys router the answer is that it worked once but gave me "limited activity" and now that my computer wont let me do any wired internet-ing I couldn't tell you if that was my computer's fault or the Linksys.

As for the Post from the  Knight dude talking about Pings... I would love to try and fix my internet by doing all that.. but (although Im not totally ignorant when it comes to computers) I don't know computer lingo very well and I need a little bit more detail on the process of "enabling proxy" and "changing the channels" and all that.  So if you could provide me with a step by step type of help that'd be great.

Anymore ideas of what could help from anyone?  I'm open to anything and appriciate everything!

VicM2121,

I asked all of those questions in order to eliminate some possibilities, but you answers did not really help in eliminating the possibilities, except the fact that it won't work in Safe Mode seems to eliminate the possibily of firewalls or some other software running at Startup from Normal Mode is causing the problem.

Let's start from 0 then.   To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

I am having the same problem.  Everything looks good, says 100% signal, says I am connected to network, but when I open browser its says I have no internet connection.  This happens every few days.  I try rebooting (unplugging all connections first), checking the wireless cards for problems (it never finds any), etc., but the only thing that ever works is when I do a system restore back to when the internet was working.  Some days it works just fine without any problems. I have a new XPS 420 with a wireless card, cable modem and Netgear wireless. I set up this new computer right after Christmas and have had this problem since then. Any suggestions?

Intermittent problems like this are the most difficult to solve.  The ipconfig output you posted, shows us that it is working as it should be.  Let's hope it stays that way.  But, if it doesn't, run this command again when it's not working.  We can then compare the two and maybe be able to figure out where the problem is.
