Connecting 2 laptops to each other

Hi,
I tried to look this up in the FAQ's but they seem to direct to wireless internet. My question is, is there a way I can get my wireless Dell laptop to talk or connect to my IBM wireless laptop so I can share or copy files or pics from one to the other. Right now I have Verizon wireless broadband for both in which they connect separately to the Verizon Westell Versalink 327W. I think I read somewhere that computer to computer talking is called "ad-hoc" or something. Is this possible?

Thank You

You do not need to use ad-hoc mode, since the computers are already connected to a network supplied by your Westell modem/router.   You need to enable File and Printer Sharing on both computers, designate drives and/or folders as shared resources, and configure all firewalls to allow local network access.
