Connecting Printer to Network

I am purchasing the Dell 1720DN Networked Laser Printer. I am also getting the BT Home Hub. Will I need to have a network card in my Dell Dimension 9150 desktop to use the printer wireless or can I just use the printer on a wireless basis?

Thank you.

Hi Chris - Thanks for your comprehensive reply. The printer I have purchased is wireless network compatible. Would I therefore be correct in saying that if I leave the Dell 9150 as wired from the BT Home Hub that I could still run the printer wireless? or can you not have one wireless without the other?

Hi,

In this scenario, would the printer will be connected to the BT Home Hub hardwired? If yes, Dimension 9150 has an onboard ethernet adapter that enables it to connect to the BT Home Hub hardwired as below.

If you could get a wireless USB adapter for the Dimension 9150 system, the setup would look as below.

Some dell printers also support wireless connectivity to the BT Home Hub instead of a hardwired connection. Hope the pictures above help you understand the concept.

Chris

Hi,

In the above picture i have assumed your BT Home Hub to be a wireless router and modem. Yes you can have the 9150 wired and the printer wireless to the BT Home Hub.

Below is the final setup;
