Connecting to Network.

Hello,

My girlfriend has a Dell Inspiron 9200 Latop with Network card (adapter?) this is all new to me, so I am not sure what. I used to be able to get on line, as their must be a network in my block.

I had to re0install as we had donwloaded a bug, I know the netowrk adpater is still there but I dont know what to do to get us on-line again. I am new to wireless and wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have no idea what I am doing ?

All the best

ok, when I have installed the driver I am still not sure what I need to do after that, in order to find the local network or to get on it. I know there is one I have used it before.

If you just reinstalled Windows, you'll need to install the drivers for all the hardware in the laptop.  The laptop should have come with a resource CD that should contain the necessary drivers to get the Chipset, Audio, Network, Wireless, etc. working again.

Once you download the driver file, just double-click on it and will will extract the files and either run a Setup utility or provide directions on how to install the drivers.

Assuming you're running Windows XP, try this link - http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R86360.EXE

That's the Broadcom integrated network controller drivers for the Inspiron 9200.  You can also visit http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_9200&os=WW1&osl=EN# for a complete driver list for that model.

She has lost the disc`s. I think it is the ethernet as this has a yellow triangle on it. Not sure at all what I am doing. I am trying to figure out where to get an Ethernet Driver from ?

The Broadcom driver is for the internal wired network adapter so you would have to plug a network cable into the laptop.  If you're referring to a wireless network that was in your area, you may need to try downloading different drivers as Dell lists several on the web link above.
