Connecting to router http site

Hello all.  I have seen several postings whereby instructions are given to go to the router manuafacturers http address.  For example, one of the Linksys routers addresses was 192.168.1.1 This address was also posted to check for other wireless user using your wireless connection:Your router: http://192.168.1.1/Status_Lan.asp.  Your WRT54GS should be similar to my WRT54G.

Everytime, I try to go to these pages, I get the message that the page cannot be displayed and to check my browser settings.  I check my browser settings as per the instructions on that error message page and everything is checked as instructed.

Can anyone explain why I cannot connect to those pages and what I need to do to correct that?

Thanks in advance!

click start, click run, type cmd and press enter.  at the prompt, type

ipconfig /all

find the network adapter that is connected and look for the Default Gateway line.  The IP address listed should be the IP of your router

Try this: http://192.168.1.1/

This should get the login page to the router.
