Connecting two computers

Question

I have a Dimension 4100 OS Windows 2000 professional  31/2 years old We are about to order a Dimension 8400 Windows XP professional. What do I need to include in the new Computer and what do I need for the old one to connect these two without wires.   Moiran.

All the 8400 would need is a wireless PCI card for the two to connect in ad hoc mode.

Moiran, You would also need a PCI wireless network card in the old computer if you want them to communicate in ad-hoc mode (without a router or access point in between). Steve

And remember AdHoc is wide open and anyone can Associate and look at the shared areas.

you can set up a WEP key on ad-hoc ... can't you?

Had to look but I'd say yes - when I set up my SMC card using the SMC WLAN utility I can set a WEP key in AdHoc mode.  Learned something there.  Thanks for the heads up.
