connecting wirelessly

Question

Have a cpt/s laptop running on millenium system, want to connect wirelessly to cable broadband, can anybody advise on what I should be looking for? would like linsky router, but very limeted knowledge previents purchase as I do not know what I should be asking for. can anybody help? My wireless experience is very limited even with Windows 98 and at zero with Windows Me (which I have found very unsatisfactory in other regards, even when brand-new).

I am running Window me on my dell Latitude lap top with a  D-Link wireless router; the laptop has detected the wireless(strong) signal; but cannot connect Internet Explorer (it fails after message'detecting proxy' appears).  What do I need to do to configure it.  I tried to set it up in the Tools/Options in the Explorer; but it did not work.  Please help.
