Connection problem(really need to fix it)

Hi,last year ,I bought a Linksys wireless router with wireless adaptor but after while of playing downloading games,it starts to disconnect every 30-40 minutes. If it disconnect,I have to restart my computer and log on and play again. So on christmas , I bought a cable to connect with my router instead of wireless since alot of people telling me thats why I'm disconnecting but the same problem is happening again and again.I do not want to restart any more computers and don't want to waste that kind of time. Please someone help me out.

I don't really think is the router's problem.I tried to connect the cable direct to the modem but still not working..I think it has something to do with my idle time but I can't really find the Dial-up network. Please help !!

It has nothing to do with dialup networking.  Which model computer do you have?  Have you set the power management settings on the network cards to never turn off the device?  Are you using Standby?

Try resetting the router to its default settings (press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for at least 10 seconds), and see if that corrects the problem.

I looked at the power,I have all set as never ,and for the device manager, below networking, all I found is "Intel(R)PRO/100 VE network connection". I been having this disconnecting problem for over 5 month now.I tried changing Modem, wireless to wired and connecting straight to modem but nothing happened. Please help me out :(

EDIT:Also I set my power as always on and the rest is never.

Standby settings can be found by right-clicking and empty space on the desktop, selecting Properties, then clicking on the screen saver tab.   Power Management settings are at the bottom.

As for individual devices, open Device Manager, expand the listing for Network Adapters, right click a network adapter and select Properties, then click on the Power Management tab.  If you happen to have an Intel wireless adapter, the power management settings are accessed using the Intel Proset utility.

I thought I would jump in here -

I will be browsing and my computer will stop sending and receiving data. Sometimes I can simply turn off/on the modem and I can get back on the net. Sometimes I have to reboot to get back on.

It is not the network. The others at school do not have this problem. Other at my home do not.
Being wireless or wired make no difference either.

Is it a software thing? Or hardware? This is pretty recent, past month or so. It occurred before I did the latest update on the drivers that came out in November.

There are many posts about pages not appearing until refreshed many times on this forum. This not a router thing (my house and university do not use the same equipment).

This is a Dell thing. Either their drivers or the ones they provide or a hardware problem.

Major pain. In the summer I will have a online course - oh what a pain it will be deal with this problem during something other than mindless surfing...

neikoz,

You have said that you have an Intel ethernet network adapter, but have never said which wirelss adapter you have.   If it is an Intel wireless adapter, see if the following helps:

rgzeda,

If you want help, start your own thread instead of confusing the issue in this thread.  Thanks.
