Constant Dropping w/ No Automatic Reconnect
Hey guys, thanks in advance for your attention--
My Dell Inspiron regularly drops off from the internet in my house and when it does, it never automatically reconnects. Time Warner apparently is bad with regular brief outages throughout the day, but this wouldn't be nearly as bad an issue if my PC would simply reconnect automatically as soon as the signal was available again. I am constantly checking 'connect automatically' every time I can and it never seems to stay permanent. I've been having to manually reconnect upon noticing my five gray bars up to 20 times a day and it's kind of awful.
Anybody know how I can finally get my Dell to assert connection throughout my notorious ISP's constant hiccups?
Thanks.

Hi,
That has to be frustrating as heck. (They won't let me use the *other* word I'd really call it).
I use TWC myself at home but I don't have that many outages in my connection. Have you rebooted your modem recently? Sometimes just unplugging the power, letting the modem sit for a short period of time (at least a minute), and then letting it power cycle all the way back up will allow it to reload it's software (firmware) and maintain a better network connection. You may not see nearly as many outages as you had before. Well, hopefully you won't.
You may also want to go into the admin screen of your modem and reset it to factory settings. Various changes over time may have caused the modem to sort of go flakey (I know, technical term there) and maybe just resetting all the defaults would help.
Next, I would recommend updating the firmware on the modem / router they provided to you. That process differs depending on what model of modem you have. The firmware is the basic software that runs the modem and sometimes it simply needs to be updated. Especially with the newer speeds, new wireless cards, etc., that we're seeing. If you can find out the brand and model of the modem you're using a quick google search on updating the firmware for it should show you how to do it. TWC support agents can also help walk you through updating the firmware.
Last, make sure all the drivers for your wireless cards are also up to date. Just like the firmware on the modem, the drivers for the wireless cards are what control your connections.
I hope some of this helps. Please let me know what you're able to find out and if needed I'll see what else I can think of to help you.
