could not connect to internet

I have Dell Dimension 2400 with U.S.Robotics 56K PCI Faxmodem. This was a new problem on 7-28. I was connected to server by dial-up. When I tried to update Microsoft Antispyware I got the message: "Could not connect to internet" With Spybod-S&D, it said "bad checksum" I could not down-load 6 e-mails, even tho it said it was downloading. Could not download other programs, got "cannot find google", "page cannot be displayed" "timed out" etc. System restore seemed to correct these problems, but some returned, and I restored again to the same date as before. Now it seems to be OK, but for how long? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Is Windows up to date on critical patches?

Do you have current, real-time antivirus and firewall protection?

Have you scanned for and removed all spyware?

The modem log only shows the data for the last time I dialed up today about 10:30. I can't understand most of it. It said "connected at 41333bps; error control on; data compression on

I'm having trouble with my internet server. I load Juno onto my machine and I dail up with a US robotic 56k modem and it reaches Juno and looks for verification of password and account from my end. Juno will kick me out stating a 691 error. Has anyone had this problem?
