There is absolutely no need to install any software whatsoever to use a cable modem, including that from Cox. Loading the software will just add more garbage to your computer that you do not need. If you plan on connecting more than one computer to the cable modem, get a router to share the internet connection. No software is needed for the router either. The default settings in Windows will allow to connect to the cable modem and/or the router.
Totally agree with Steve. In fact, the installation of the software may be your problem. Restore to a point before you installed the software and just connect to the modem, following the instructions. Connect the modem to the coax, power up the modem and wait, connect the modem to the PC then power up the PC.
To both, Volcano 11 (Steve) and JMWills, Thank You both!
After reading your replies, I left the "Software" alone. The following day, Monday, I called "Cox" and the tech checked out the connections remotely, and now I'm up! (Albeit still "wired").
Apparently it was a small glitch on "their" end, "The switch" wasn't flipped.
Again, Thank You Gentlemen for your advice.
Next step, a router! (Your good wishes will be appreciated.
An access point is not a router. You could add an access point to a wired router to make a LAN wireless, but an Access Point alone is worthless without a router.
