D600 Cannot Configure Wireless Connection

I have a Latitude D600 with an internal Dell Truemobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card.  I am rebuilding with Win XP Pro.
XP Pro did not recognize the WLAN as PnP so I installed the driver from file R102320.  WLAN now found.
When I try to use the wireless, I get the message "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection".  It instructs me to install the Windows wireless zero configuration, which I do.  Using the "propeties" and "Wireless Network", I check the box to say "Use Windows to configure my wireless network connections".

Everything then works fine, until I reboot.  Then, I cannot actvate the wireless card and have to go back through the wireless zero configuration process.

How can I make the settings "stick"?

Thanks

Open the Dell Wireless Utility and remove the check mark in front of the "Let this tool manage your wireless network".

Not sure.

How would I check that?

Thanks for the quick response.

I did that.

Unchecked on the Dell wireless utility and then checked "Use Windows to configure my wireless network setting" on the Properties.

Unfortunately, setting did not hold on reboot and I still have to go through Wireless Zero Configuration process.

Any ideas?

Is the wireless zero configuration set to start automatically?

Checked and it is set to "Automatic".  I did that each time when I had to "Start" wireless zero configuration.

Still won't hold the settings on reboot, however.

This is really strange.

Thanks for the help.

Go to Start > Run and type services.msc then hit the Enter key.  Find Wireless Zero... in the list, and double click it.  Set the startup type to Automatic.

You said in a previous post that  you 'then checked '"Use Windows to configure my wireless network setting" on the Properties'.  Exactly where did you do this?

Thanks for sticking with me on this.

I double-click on the wireless network connection from network connections.

Then "Properties"

Then "Wireless Connection" tab.

There is a "Use Windows to configure wireless connection" checkbox

That's the second step that the error message leads you to from the initial "cannot configure this wireless connection" error.

Again thanks.

It's getting late on the east coast and I'll be out of town for a couple of days.  Will check back in a couple of days when I get home.

Again, thanks for all of your help.  Let me know what I should try and I will over the weekend.

When you reinstalled Windows, did you install the chipset drivers as the first device drivers installed (especially before installing the wireless drivers)?  If not, assuming the chipset drivers are now installed, you should go into Device Manager, remove the wireless network adapter, reboot, and reinstall the wireless network adapter drivers and utility.

I'll try over the weekend and let you know.
