D600, XP Pro, missing Broadcom network adapters

Greetings.

I can only connect to the internet using a wireless connection.

No broadcom adapters are listed in my device drivers.

My "network connections" displays my wireless connection and the following:
Local Area Connection 3, with the Device Name being Cisco Systems VPN Adapter.

I recently reinstalled the Broadcom download from support.dell.com, but when I start the Broadcom control suite, I get the following message: no broadcom internet adapters detected in this system.

Can someone tell me how to find/install the proper broadcom network adapter (if that is the problem) so I can cannot to the internet when a wireless connection is not available?

Thank you very much.

There is only 1 Broadcom driver available for the D600 which you can easily download from DELL Support Page.

Did you check the Bios Setup for any signs of disabled onboard network card?

Hey cfro I recently faced the same problem as you and this is how I solved it:

1. Uninstall Cisco Systems VPN Adapter.  This is probably whats intefering with your normal LAN connection as it is acts as a LAN adapter emulator and takes over the role of your normal Broadcom adapter.

2.Restart your computer and if this works you should have your normal LAN connection back to normal and it should read Broadcom adapter instead of CISCO VPN adapter.

3. If you still do not see your LAN, do as xenomo suggested above and go into your BIOS on startup as your LAN connection was probably disabled. If this is so you will also notice that your modem was disabled. You can now reenable both and restart your computer.

This worked for me and I hope it works for you. Thank you xenomo for the BIOS tip ;-)

thanks for the info, everyone. I spoke with Dell Support, and turns out I needed a new motherboard. Someone was out to fix it two days later - can't complain.

Best,
cfroh
