d610 Broadcom Driver Version

My tech guy had trouble getting my new d610 to be able to manage my separate Dell PowerEdge server.  The error message he received tracks to a known problem addressed at Microsoft's support site as Q326152.

Went to see if the driver is current.  On the d610 it's version 7.86.  On the Dell support site that's the most current one, created in 12/2004 and released 2/2005.  But on the Broadcom website there are at least two more recent versions, including v. 8.48e released last month.

Question: Is it safe to download and install a driver on theBroadcom website that is not posted on the Dell site?

I have not seen any problems as long as you're sure you use the correct driver.  I will often go to the manufacturers website for drivers as they often have updates posted sooner than Dell.  There is a very small possibility of incompatibility, but this is very, very rare.
